Meta to continue with metaverse plans despite criticism targeting the project

Meta CEO Zuckerberg defended the company’s metaverse plans at a recent event.

Founder and CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, reaffirmed the company’s hopes of building the metaverse despite some recent criticism surrounding the company’s decision to continue supporting the project without any significant returns generated from it. In a recent interview, Zuckerberg was asked about his opinion on the company’s metaverse project, where he voiced his support for the company’s plans.

“I think things look very different on a ten-year time horizon than the zone that we’re in for the next few years […] I’m still completely optimistic about all the things that we’ve been optimistic about.”, said Zuckerberg, putting a long-term outlook on the project. Setting aside any criticism of their recent quarterly results, he said, “We’re not going to be here in the 2030s communicating and using computing devices that are exactly the same as what we have today, and someone has to build that and invest in it and believe in it.”

He stated the company’s focus was on efficiency and discipline going into the future and confirmed that 80% of its investments were still very much into its social media platforms. Criticizing a rival tech giant’s app store policies, he conveyed his support for much less restrictive application stores.
