US authorities lean towards anti-crime task force for crypto

Five groups of US authorities have announced their plans to work together for anti-crime practices in the crypto industry.

The United States‘ crackdown on crypto crimes with the announcement of the Darknet Marketplace and Digital Currency Crimes Task Force could be a positive deal for the crypto industry in the country, especially with US authorities directly involved in cleaning up the sector.

The enforcement agencies jointly announced the anti-crime task force that would focus on specific crypto crimes like money laundering, drug trafficking, child exploitation and other related offenses.

The US authorities that came on board with the task force included the Office for US Attorneys, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Arizona, the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, and the Postal Inspection Service.

The US authorities mentioned above are separate enforcement agencies, but they have been working together on several issues for a long time. Their joint effort in combating crypto crimes could be a sincere effort to bring down fraud in the sector.

“The Darknet Marketplace and Digital Currency Crimes Task Force’s mission is to disrupt and dismantle criminal organizations that exploit the appearance of anonymity on the darknet or use digital currency to facilitate criminal activities,” said an official statement by the US authorities.

With a rise in the instances of crypto crimes, various regulators and governments have been engaging with the crypto industry to combat such incidents of fraud. It could be a good sign of increased collaboration between the industry and government in solving the issue.
