The National Youth Service Corps in Nigeria will start issuing blockchain certificates, as the Director General of NITDA informed at a recent event.
Nigeria is not new to the crypto industry, even from the government’s angle. A few months back, authorities unveiled the National Blockchain Policy in Nigeria. Even the President of the country, Bola Tinubu, endorsed crypto regulations earlier this year. Now, blockchain certificates are set to be a common practice in Nigeria.
Authorities in Nigeria have moved ahead with the momentum and announced the new initiatives recently. The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, announced the same. The certificates will be for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The National Youth Service Corps is a unique program in Nigeria. It requires those under 30, who are graduates in Nigeria, to offer community development services in the nation’s interest. Abdullahi spoke about the NYSC certificates in the Stakeholders’ Policy Dialogue. The Dialogue was a collaborative event, focussing on the National Blockchain Policy.
“I believe blockchain, with the ability to add $1.7 trillion to the global GDP, will be a good technology for Nigeria to leverage. And if we position ourselves well based on the BWC report, Nigeria can add about $40 billion to its GDP by 2030,” said Abdullahi. He was extensively bullish on the potential of blockchain technology.
He also mentioned that the Central Bank of Nigeria would be helping them in issuing the certificates. The blockchain-powered NYSC certificates could also avoid the large-scale counterfeiting they faced earlier.
