Sony Music applies for a trademark to authenticate music via NFTs

The trademark application covers video recordings, artwork, text, and live music audios to be authenticated using NFTs.

Music giant Sony Music Entertainment has filed for a trademark to use NFTs for authenticating music. The trademark application covers music and artists under the Columbia Records Label. The Twitter announcement revealed that the trademark application covers NFT-backed audio and video recordings of live musical performances.

Besides NFTs, the trademark application also covered distribution and marketing services, podcasts, audio-video recordings, promotion and advertising, and online entertainment. The trademark application comes after the many NFT-backed projects Sony Music has launched so far.
