Amid much fanfare, Cardano’s Vasil upgrade goes live

The Vasil upgrade, the most crucial project in Cardano’s journey so far, is now live!

The most ambitious undertaking in the history of Cardano so far has been successfully concluded: after a several-month long delay, the Cardano Vasil upgrade finally went live on September 22.

The blockchain company Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) took to Twitter to announce the successful completion of the Cardano hard fork, and the Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson also had many watches the full process alongside him on live Twitter spaces.

The Vasil upgrade is expected to bring newer features like the transmission of blocks without full validation, which is expected to allow for quicker creation of blocks. Further, updation of its Plutus smart contracts for magnified functionalities should allow for decentralised apps to be formed and run at far lower costs.

After the Vasil upgrade, Cardano would focus on developing its layer-2 scalability solution- the Hydra head protocol. Meanwhile, the excitement surrounding Cardano’s upgrades have caused a 0.41% spike in ADA’s price in the past 24 hours.
Hoskinson opines, “I think there’ll be kind of a big spike within three to six months post-Vasil because a lot of people are building who are waiting to deploy [new applications].”
