Apple may dabble in the Metaverse

The tech giant has multiple job openings for AR and VR engineers, hinting at its entry into the space.

In an exciting new development, the careers portal in Apple has posted openings for AR and VR engineers, starting a whole new discussion about whether the company has been developing a 3D mixed reality based on the metaverse. One particular opening specifically mentions the ‘3D mixed-reality world’, which confirms the fact that Apple is, in fact, very much involved in it.

Though it is no secret that Apple has been developing AR and VR technology since way back in 2017, these new job postings and various patent filings indicate that the development might be gaining good progress. Though it hasn’t been confirmed yet by the company, reports suggest that Apple has partnered with a Taiwanese company to assemble its headsets. Recent patent filings show the trademarks ‘Reality One’ and ‘Reality Pro,’ both of which can be traced back to Apple.

Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, claimed in January 2022, “We see a lot of potential in this space and are investing accordingly.” when he was asked about Apple’s foray into the metaverse. There hasn’t been much progress on the topic shared publicly by Apple, but the recent job postings definitely indicate exciting times ahead for metaverse enthusiasts.
