The California DMV has partnered with Oxhead Alpha and the Tezos blockchain to improve its current vehicle title management system.
Through a collaboration between the Tezos blockchain, blockchain firm Oxhead Alpha and the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), a test project is being carried out to digitize car titles and title transfers. The DMV is carrying out the project with its partners, while Oxhead Alpha has published a press release.
DMV selected Oxhead Alpha to build a platform that would use blockchain technology to improve the current functions of the California DMV. Oxhead Alpha completed the proof-of-concept solution based on the Tezos blockchain. The current efforts are a part of the California Blockchain Working Group Roadmap and also included by Governor Newsom in his latest executive order regarding blockchain.
The solution would use smart contracts on the Tezos blockchain to process title transfers faster and ensure compliance. Chief Digital Transformation Officer of California DMV Ajay Gupta said, “DMV is exploring innovative blockchain solutions to help increase efficiency, boost transparency and reduce economic costs.” He added, “This would avoid repeated verification steps for customer and State/public service entities, resulting in reduced workload, economic benefits and auditability.”
President of Oxhead Alpha, Andrew Smith, praised the Tezos blockchain and termed it the correct solution for vehicle titles in California. He said Tezos would improve the current processes, bring efficiency, and make it easier to digitally track the history of vehicles.
