DJ Seephrase (the pseudonym of investor-cum-DJ Danny Maegaard) is one of the earlier Bitcoin investors, and recently he has also become a well-known figure within the NFT space. He sold his rare CryptoPunk 2924 on September 28, Wednesday to a buyer in Texas for 3,300 ETH, the rough equivalent to about 4.45 million USD.
The Hoodie Ape Punk was one of the only 24 Ape Punks, and DJ Seedphrase had bought it back in November 2020 for 150 ETH (equal to about $71,300). Seedphrase also owns 20 other punks, which include his signature CryptoPunk 8348. This particular Punk wears a top hat, a big beard, and shades, and has a cigarette hanging off its mouth.
DJ Seedphrase stated he was running out of liquidity and also wanted to cause market movement during the current crypto bear run: “I was running low on liquidity and NFT sales volume has taken a nosedive recently, so I knew it would take an exceptional grail to get some market movement… I’ve regularly received private offers for the hoodie ape, so I knew the interest was there. It was just a matter of finding the right price.”
Notably, back in June 2021, CryptoPunk 7523 (Covid Alien) was also sold for about $11.7 million, marking the highest price fetched by a CryptoPunk NFT in a resale.
