Fukuoka aims to become Japan’s web3 hub

Fukuoka’s collaboration with Astar Japan Labs is expected to bring out fresh use cases in the web3 sector.

Fukuoka, a Japanese port city, has recently allied with Astar Japan Labs. Now Fukuoka aims to become the web 3.0 hub in the country, much like Silicon Valley. Notably, Astar Japan Labs is the very company behind the Astar network, the leading blockchain network in Japan.

Fukuoka, the second-largest port city in the country, has received official recognition as a National Special Strategic Zone. Now, it intends to become the nation’s main hub for web3 and cryptocurrency. The Astar Japan Labs partnership will enable cooperation between both organizations on fresh web3 technology application cases.

Interestingly, Fukuoka is the latest in the ranks of the over 45 companies that Astar collaborates with, along with Microsoft Japan and Amazon Japan.

According to the release, the city wants to draw businesses from across the world to the area. In cooperation with local governments, representatives from Astar will frequently visit the city to bring updated education and brand new use cases throughout the nation.

Soichiro Takashima, the mayor of Fukuoka, had this to say in support of the city’s new goals in web3: “We have to do in the context of web3 what large companies did for the world when Japan was strong.”

In relevant news, the government of Japan has plans to make significant investments in web3 and metaverse projects, as the prime minister of Japan stated in a speech at the beginning of October.
