The customized Mastercard debit cards will be supporting the Bored Ape and CryptoPunk NFT collections, among others.
A few cardholders who possess avatars from certain specified NFT collections are now able to add the artwork on their payment card thanks to Mastercard’s launch of customizable NFT debit cards. Reportedly, these customizable cards will only support NFT avatars from specific blue chip collections, and they will be subjected to Mastercard’s design standards and a special owner identification process.
The NFT collections to be supported will include CryptoPunk, Moonbirds, and Bored Ape.
Mastercard has partnered with the European cryptocurrency trading platform hi to make these debit cards available to users. Their Gold members can personalize their debit cards with a supported NFT they legally own. A minimum of 100,000 hi Dollars (HI) would be needed to attain one of these Gold memberships, which is the equivalent of around $4,600.
The cards are made for exclusive use in the United Kingdom and in 25 EEA nations so far. Anywhere Mastercard is accepted in the designated areas, these cards will allow spending in fiat, stablecoins, or whatever cryptocurrency the user owns. Certain membership tiers even come with additional perks like hotel credits, cash back incentives, and discounts on Netflix and Spotify subscriptions.
Christian Rau, vice president of crypto and fintech enablement at Mastercard, said the company is “dedicated to make them an accessible payment solution for the communities that choose to utilize them” as consumer interest in NFTs and crypto continue to grow.
