Microsoft Edge’s web3 wallet is reportedly in the testing phase

A technology researcher who goes by the name ‘Albacore’ on Twitter has shared many pictures on Twitter which show a web3 wallet developed by Microsoft, integrated with Edge. Though it is not surprising as Microsoft has been involved in several new technologies in the past, its foray into web3 would definitely be of interest to the crypto space.

“Newest in the gauntlet of questionable upcoming Microsoft Edge features, a crypto wallet not really sure how to feel about this kind of thing being baked into the default browser,” stated Albacore in the Twitter thread. The pictures denote Microsoft mentioning the non-custodial nature of the wallet, with users being in full charge of their funds. Microsoft would not have access to their passwords and recovery keys. The web3 wallet was also integrated on Edge, removing the requirement of any extensions.

The pictures also show different sections for non-fungible tokens, crypto, and also a news feed featuring crypto news. The feature is still in its testing phase and has likely been rolled out for a select few users. Microsoft has done several experiments with the latest technologies in the past, many of which have not seen the light of day. Only time will reveal if the latest web3 wallet rolls out for all users eventually.

Microsoft has also been trying to provide Edge with upgraded features to move ahead from its peer browsers since Edge hasn’t always been the most preferred browser. In other moves, Microsoft has also been deeply involved with artificial intelligence through OpenAI and has rolled out AI upgrades to Bing and Edge.
