The NFT collection attracted widespread criticism as even a few of his supporters called out the low-quality collectibles.
Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced the release of his NFT collection drawing the ire of the crypto community. He took to his social media site Truth Social and released a set of 45000 NFT trading cards, each priced at $99. Holders of the tokens would get a chance to win a wide array of prizes, including being a part of an exclusive community with Trump, enjoying various activities like playing golf, and having dinners with Trump. The cards have also received buyers, selling between 1 ETH and 2 ETH.
Terming the project as a ‘SimpDAO’, analyst Eric Wall wrote on Twitter, “Wait a minute. These NFTs give you access to a community. A dinner with Trump. Golfing with Trump. Zoom calls. One-on-one meetings. Autographs. These aren’t baseball cards. This is a SimpDAO!”
Donald Trump has been a longtime crypto critic, saying their value was ‘based on thin air’. The recent activity, hence, came as a surprise for everyone. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao was positive regarding the development, writing, “The former United States President issues NFTs. And he didn’t like crypto before. We are getting there.” His post didn’t meet with a lot of agreement, though.
